My Hopes for Newly Hired Democrats

Whew! What a great victory for all those candidates who fought against the slew of billionaires trying to buy their way to controlling the country. The one great equalizer in the US is the right to vote. Assholes and angels – rich and poor – we only get one vote.

So now the work begins. I hope our new hires will focus on making Americans’ lives better. Lower prices, return to investments in science and education, an end to insider trading and self-dealing. All that.

Stay in touch with the people you represent. Listen. Have monthly town halls and virtual town halls. Use technology like my favorite – Remesh.ai – to solicit feedback. Act ethically. Every religion values kindness and generosity, welcoming the stranger. I’m no religious scholar, but in Judaism, it’s Tikkun Olam; in Buddhism, it’s the recognition that every sentient being has a Buddha nature. Every single one – no mater their country of birth, religion, gender identity. No matter what. In Christianity, it’s in the words and behaviors of Jesus.

Address corruption and illegality, but don’t make the investigations the number one priority. Stay focused on improving the quality of life for regular people. Maintain your moral compass at all costs.
